Simple Citrus Orange Mocktail [4 Ingredients]

Warm-weather mocktails are always in season in my house (because I live in Florida) and I also just really love punchy, citrusy drinks.

When you stop drinking alcohol, you might want alcohol alternatives that can create the punchiness of alcoholic beverages. That’s where seltzers and citrus can work wonders.

For this citrus orange mocktail, you’ll need the following ingredients:

  •  1 cup freshly squeezed lime juice (about 8 limes)
  • 1 tbsp agave syrup
  • 1/2 cup sparkling water
  • 1/4 cup orange juice (juice from about 1 orange)
  • Ice cubes (optional)
  • Lime slices, for garnish
  • Salt, for rimming the glass (optional)

How to Make a Citrus Orange Mocktail

To start, gather your ingredients and make sure you have the right equipment. You’ll need a citrus juicer, a pitcher, a cutting board, a knife, and glasses.

Step 1: Juice your citrus.

To get one cup of lime juice, juice approximately eight limes and set your lime juice aside. Then, juice an orange until you have 1/4 cup of juice (juice more if you want it to be sweeter and more orangey).

Step 2: Combine your ingredients in a small pitcher.

Add some ice to a small pitcher and combine all your ingredients – your lime juice, orange juice, agave, and sparkling water. Stir to combine.

Step 3: Salt your rim (optional).

If you fancy a slated rim (or sugar if you’re feeling for something sweet), now is the time to do it. Take one of your juiced limes and rub it along the rim of your glass. Pour some salt onto a flat surface and press the rim of your glass into the salt. Voila!

Step 4: Serve your drink.

Fill your glass with ice and pour your citrus orange mocktail mixture into the glass. Garnish with a lime wedge (if you want) and enjoy!

Citrus Orange Mocktail Variations and Substitutions

  • Sweetener Variations: Instead of agave syrup, you can use honey, maple syrup, or simple syrup. For a low-calorie option, consider using a sugar substitute like stevia or erythritol.
  • Sparkling Water Substitutes: If you prefer a non-carbonated drink, you can replace the sparkling water with still water. Alternatively, for a different twist, try coconut water or a flavored sparkling water like lemon or berry.
  • Orange Juice Alternatives: Instead of orange juice, try other citrus juices like grapefruit, tangerine, or blood orange for a different flavor profile. For a tropical twist, you could use pineapple or mango juice.
  • Adding Herbs: Fresh herbs can add an interesting flavor. Mint, basil, or rosemary can be muddled at the bottom of the glass before adding the ice and limeade mixture.
  • Sugar Your Rim: For your a sweeter kick, use sugar instead of salt on your glass rim.
  • Fruit Infusions: Add slices of cucumber, strawberries, or raspberries into the pitcher for a fruit-infused version. Letting it sit for an hour or two will intensify the flavors.
  • Spicy Kick: For a spicy variation, add a few slices of jalapeño or a small amount of cayenne pepper to the pitcher. This pairs well with the sweetness of the agave and the tartness of the lime.
  • Citrus Zest: Add zest from the lime or orange to the pitcher for an extra burst of citrus flavor.
